LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, January 5, 1996 -- An industry normally caught up in a buzz about AC-3 surround, 5" digital video discs, and 18" satellite dishes, took time out this winter to recognize a new product that enables electronic enthusiasts to maximize their enjoyment from these technologies. Diamond Case Designs announced today the selection of their Theater-Tech System One home theater furnishings as an Innovations '96 winner in the video category at the 1996 International Winter Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
Theater-Tech System One caters to enthusiasts with a true passion for home entertainment. Designed to professionally organize the electronics that make up a complete home theater system, Theater-Tech embodies the talent of professional furniture designer, Don Griffin, along with the finest materials and workmanship to make a beautifully fresh impact. However what is most notable about Theater-Tech is the attitude behind its nearly two-year creation. To be commensurate with today's hi-tech digital electronics, Diamond Case Designs developers David and Fred Hartfelder place as much importance on the performance of the furniture as all other electronics in the system. The result is unsurpassed features and flexibility for organizing large TVs, multiple components, and high capacity media storage.
Topping the list of novel features are adjustable high capacity media drawers which (like adjustable shelves) can be moved to any location in the system. This gives the user the flexibility to arrange both components and software storage according to their own specific needs. As shipped, Theater-Tech System One is capable of housing 800 CDs, and could be expanded up to 1760 CDs by adding more drawers. In addition, sliding row dividers with backstops, allow the drawers to be segmented into rows of any width for the proper organization of any size media. For ease of installation and access to electronics, Theater-Tech sports heavy duty casters and 1/4" thick removable back panels secured with machine screw fittings, for positive, secure metal-to-metal attachment and removal. And to conceal speakers or a subwoofer, both wood and glass door panels are interchangeable with grill cloth. The list of performance features rounds out with an air chimney ventilation system, wire access channels, a black interior, a large screen TV bay capable of housing up to a 46" TV, and easy adjust levelers.
Each year, prominent industry experts, including industrial designers, engineers, and members of the trade press evaluate the best ideas in electronic hardware consumer design and engineering that are submitted by manufacturers of consumer electronics products in the United States. The Design and Engineering Honors Program recognizes ten broad categories of hardware, including accessible products, blank media, small/home office, multimedia, home automation, lifestyle electronics, vehicle electronics, mobile/portable electronics, audio and video. Each entry is evaluated on product innovation, aesthetics, value to users, and contribution to the quality of life. Winning designs are showcased in the special Innovations display at the Winter CES, and on a "Wall of Fame" at each of the remaining 1996 CES trade shows.
Innovations is the most recognized awards program in the consumer electronics industry, endorsed by the Industrial Designers Society of America and sponsored and produced by the Consumer Electronics Manufacturers Association (CEMA), a sector of the Electronics Industries Association (EIA).
The Theater-Tech line is currently available from select electronics retailers and direct from the factory. System One can be seen during the Consumer Electronics Show (January 5th - 8th) in the Diamond Case Designs booth #11516 in the North 1 hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, and the Innovations booth #18672 at the Sands Expo and Convention Center.
